Today in one of my classes, we were talking about abstract art. Our professor flashed some paintings on the board and asked us what we saw. As a few brave souls answered, we realized that we were all seeing different things. Then our professor spoke up, and told us that there was an infinite array of images we could see in that one painting, it was just a matter of our perspective. Our only limit was our imagination. He then said how this image was just chaos, and that our brains will always try to make sense out of the chaos.
It got me thinking, in the chaos of life, our brains are constantly trying to make sense of it. Our brains crave understanding, and when we see something we don’t fully understand, we visualize it so that we can understand. We have a hard time understanding infinity, because everything we see begins and ends. We have a hard time understanding time as anything other than linear, because we have never experienced it any other way. We can have a hard time picturing God, because he is something beyond our comprehension. We do not understand an uncreated God, because we live in a created existence.
Is there something in your life that you do not yet understand?
